OVERCOMING MASTURBATION
But every man is
tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust
hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished bringeth
forth death. James 1:14,15
In overcoming
masturbation, we will need a little understanding on the synthesis of
character.
And be not
conformed to the pattern of this world: but be transformed by the renewing of
your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect
will of God. Rom.12:2
The whole issue of
masturbation has it's root from within.
Keep thy heart with
all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Prov. 4:24
The Character
Synthesis
Every act comes
first as a thought of choice, if the thought is given heed to; it induces a
desire that prompts the act. Repeated acts forms a habit and continual habits
builds character. Your character influences your lifestyle and your lifestyle
would determine your destiny; your final destination is either eternal death or
eternal life.
Masturbation
springs from the fulfillment of the desire for sexual pleasure through self
stimulation. Repeated acts of self-stimulation forms the habit of masturbation.
In overcoming masturbation, the key thing is to deal with the root of the
problem i.e. dealing with what induces the very desire.
For the evil
character chain; habits tends to control those that have it.
Evil Characters has
three stages
1.
The formative stage: at this time, you
consciously carry out the act, the whole act process results majorly from your
willful decision to carry out the act. This is when the habit is formed
2.
The spontaneous stage: this is when the formed
habit is mastered and you don't find difficulty in doing the act; it's becoming
part of you.
3.
The dominating stage: this is when the habit
tends to take over you, overpowering your will as if it is fighting with you,
defeating you most times and living you helpless.
1.
Make a conscious and firm decision to stop and
write down the time and date your took that decision.
2.
Ask your self these questions and sincerely
answer them; there will give you a clue to the whole issue.
1.
What made me to engage in the act, for the very
first time?
2.
Why am I still doing it?
3.
How do I see the act; is it right or wrong?
4.
Do I have a measure of control over the act?
5.
Is there an urge to perform the act?
6.
Does the urge overwhelm me?
7.
How frequent do I engage in the act?
8.
Do I really what to stop?
9.
Why do I want to stop?
10.
Can I tell someone?
11.
What has been the advantages to me?
12.
What has been the disadvantages to me?
13.
Does my association influence this act?
14.
What usually happens prior to the act?
15.
How are my emotions before I carry out the act?
16.
What happens immediately after the act?
3.
Having answered this questions, evaluate your
answers
4.
From your answers, make out ways to change that
habit.
THE
WORD THERAPY
If you are not
born- again, the above steps would provide a terminal or temporary relief; as you are still of sin and death, in the
kingdom of darkness and thereby under the dominion of Satan. When you are
born-again, you are delivered from the dominion of Satan who is of darkness,
sin no longer has dominion over you. You are now born of the word and of the
Spirit and function under grace in the glorious liberty of the saints in light.
You first and
foremost have to acknowledge that it is not right and it is a sin unto God,
against your body. Confess to God and ask for his forgiveness
Be assured, that
God has forgiven you, cleansed you and does not hold it against you.
If we confess our
sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from
all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
Masturbation is overcome
from within, because that is where it starts from. The word of God has the best
solution to this problem.
The word of God,
has a cleansing and sanctifying ability.
Now ye are clean
through the word which I have spoken to you. John 15:3
Sanctify them
through thy truth, thy word is truth. John 17:17
Wherewithal shall a
young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word. Psalms
119:9
How does the word
cleanse and sanctify from masturbation? It gives you divine power over your thoughts,
it changes how you think and thus changes you. By constantly having fellowship
with God, in the word and in prayer effectively can deal with this problem.
For the word is
quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the
dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a
discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Heb.4:12

Confess your faults
[that problem of masturbation] to one another, and pray one for another, that
ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth
much. James 5:16
It is necessary you
tell someone
Your ability to
confess to someone makes it easier when dealing with this habit.
The person, who the
issue is confess to should pray with you concerning it; that you will be
healed.
Don’t tell everyone
or just anyone, but those who are responsible and serious-minded, like your
parents if they are good believers, you Spiritual leader or a Christian
Counselor. Someone who would not hurt or oppress you with what you tell them.
